Arms Crests & Monograms Album - Late 19C

A hard cover 'Arms, Crest and Monograms' album complied in the late nineteenth century. Original gilt-ruled red morocco, upper board stamped in gilt 'Arms, Crests and Monograms'. Bumps and tares to spine. Structurally intact. Front board inner has ownership signature and date. Pencil sketch of a sailor to one board. Lithographed titled-leaf with calligraphic title 'The Monogram Album' with slight damage. 

Twenty five card pages with seven chromolithographic crests and monograms mounted on each. A few crests or monograms are missing. Around 160 remaining. 

Collecting crests and monograms was very popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This book encapsulated the social history of the time. Several of the crests would be of interest to a collector of militaria. Price reflects condition.
